School, Man. School.

Yep. Sophomore year. Quite frustrating. I've got a band that I can't get together, Marching Band is pissing me off, and my teachers range from "asshole" to "Tolerable", and I'm tired. Jesus Christ, I'm tired. I just don't feel awake anymore. I sleep a lot and usually have a headache when I'm not.

Right now, I'm not tired. I feel fine. so I'll write.

My band. I really like the guys in my band. All of them are nice guys and  excellent musicians, and we write great stuff together. This is is the main reason why this annoys me. We should be getting together, and writing more music, but we can't. One of us, it seems, always has something else, and it's so frustrating, especially when it's me that has something else to do. I try to clear up my schedule, but it just doesn't work. I understand when things like this happen, it isn't my fault, or any of my bandmates, because we still have to go where our families go. It's one of those things that frustrates you, but you can't do anything about it. I just hope we find time and don't break up.

Marching Band is a joke. I love the concept, and I loved doing it last year, but this year, not enough people take it seriously. Sure, it's supposed to be fun, but the fun is doing it. People aren't listening, some (not most) of the section leaders are extremely hypocritical, and the rehearsals are run VERY poorly. We don't practice enough, (wow, I see a trend here) the practices are all disjointed in structure, and very confusing. And the people, MY GOD THE PEOPLE. I don't know about the color guard because I don't hang out with any of them, but it seems like everyone has some sort of personal issue with someone else, and it makes me sick. Why? Seriously. You don't get this bullshit on the football team.

Alright. I'm done bitching to you like a scorned 8th grade girl. Here's What I'm Reading this week.

Yup, really good so far. Palahniuk never fails to deliver.

Here's what I'm listening to. Modest Mouse. Also really good.

Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself

My name's Jason. I'm a sophomore at JTHS, I play music, and I like to read and write. I'm going to shift the focus of this blog from music to the classic blog form. The Hi-I'm-(author)-And-You-Can-Read-My-Opinion-If-You-Wish format. I'll think of something to write soon.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor- F# A# Infinity

I have a crippling weakness for post-rock. I was introduced to the genre through a Slint album a friend recommended to me (Spiderland) I gave it a listen, and was hooked immediately. While listening to it I realized a peculiar quality about this new genre of music.

What I found was that you can't just listen to post-rock. You need to be in a certain state of mind, and when you are, you get a strange trance-like feeling.

Enough bullshit. On to the review. Godspeed You! Black Emperor's (gybe) album F# A# Infinity is truly one of the most haunting, captivating, and overall moving albums of the past twenty years. From the opening apocalyptic monologue of The Dead Flag Blues to the final silent minutes of Providence, and every little crescendo, violin scratch, and plink on the glockenspiel in between, I not just heard the music, I felt like I was part of the barren wasteland that this music wordlessly describes, and I enjoyed every minute of it. This is a fantastic album, perfect in pretty much every way. Among my favorite parts were the last part of The Dead Flag Blues, The 3 minute mark of East Hastings, and the 8 Minute point of Provedence. There were no faults I could think of.
